Hunters Thermostat replacement (Author #140 Latdo)
I used a Hunter model 42999B (Wal-Mart $20), but I am sure other ones will work also. You
will also need a very small toggle switch. This switch is for selecting the 2 speeds on the air
conditioner. If you don’t use both speeds you can eliminate this part. I used a sub miniature
SPST switch from Radio Shack. See pictures to see how I mounted it. I drilled a hole in the
side of the thermostat and mounted it there. Any place will work.
Step 1. Remove power. If you have the battery disconnect use it otherwise disconnect the
battery. Also unplug from shore power.
Step 2. Remove front cover off existing thermostat and record color of wires. Mine were
7.5 – Red
cool – Yellow
Fur – White
Hi fan – Blue
Fan – Brown
Grd – Green
Yours might be different.
Warning! Tape up 7.5 (red) wire. This thermostat does not need any power; so do not use the
7.5 (red) wire.
Step 3. Remove old thermostat and keep for emergencies.
Step 4. Mount base of new thermostat.
Step 5. Hook up the following wires to the thermostat. The 4-wire system is used
Red – tape up; not used
Yellow – Y (Cool contactor)
White – W (Heat relay)
Blue – Wired to SPST switch; other side of switch wired to G (Fan relay)
Brown – G (Fan relay)
Green – Rc or Rh (Supply voltage)
Rc and Rh are jumpered together
Step 6. Mount switch and installed thermostat cover and enjoy.
You must have batteries for the thermostat to work.
